• Backed by over twenty years in the industry, Richard Kriheli is a QA Testing expert who is now a technical advisor at Coding Temple. Richard graduated from college with a degree in English, and began his journey in a role disguised as proofreading, but was actually testing educational software. What inspired Coding Temple to launch a Quality Assurance Bootcamp? 

Saint: The first reason we decided to launch this QA Testing bootcamp was because we saw a high demand for it! 

Richard: Software engineers and quality assurance testers are separate roles in industry (a proper team has a development team and a QA team that works together), so it was important for Coding Temple to prepare students for other tech roles in the real world. 

Why is QA Testing a smart career path as we look forward to 2024? 

Richard: Simply put, products need to be tested. Regulatory products are always under intense scrutiny with a lot of eyes on them. Consumer products that are not regulated also have eyes on them, and if something goes awry it can be hurtful to the business. Testing is a wise investment for businesses, and now that AI is entering the picture, there is even more of a duty to get earnest testing done because there are more opportunities for things to fail.

Saint: Even if you’ve never coded before, if you’re detail-oriented, analytical, and have strong problem solving skills, you’ll be great in the QA testing bootcamp! The course gradually builds from intro topics to more advanced to help anyone totally new to QA ramp up.

Do incoming students need to have basic technical skills like coding?

Saint: The admissions process for QA Testing is the same as our other bootcamps. There is a questionnaire to help applicants determine which bootcamp would be the best fit for them. 

Richard: You don’t have to be a developer to become an Automation Engineer, but knowing some fundamentals doesn’t hurt. It can also give you a competitive advantage on the job market.

What types of tech roles does this course prepare students for? 

Saint: Graduates could land entry-level test automation roles, especially if they show some proficiency and interest in it. Most graduates will start as an entry-level analyst or engineer, and some QA tester roles are designed as entry-level with no experience! Coding Temple grads have an advantage over someone with no experience, though, because our graduates have tangible learning experience in QA testing. 

What kinds of salaries can QA Testing students expect after graduation?

Richard: A typical starting salary in my industry for entry-level QA testing is in the range of $50k-$60k - though competencies, location and other variables can factor into this.

Richard: Look for local QA groups to connect with in your area! Meetup.com is a great resource. 

What is your advice for students embarking on a program like this? 

Richard: Have some fun. Don't take it too seriously. No one leaves a bootcamp an expert — you leave with a sense of guidance for your first steps. This course offers a wide range of competencies (such as performance, automation, etc.) with no deep dives into any of them. It’s a jumpstart! You’ll leave with a surface understanding of almost everything, which is a great start for anyone.
