Makers Academy is a highly selective, tech program which teaches Software Engineering, Data Analytics, DevOps (or Cloud), and Test Engineering online and in hybrid cohorts at their campus in London, England. Makers Academy is creating a new generation of tech talent who are skilled and ready for the changing world of work. The academy is inspired by the idea of discovering and unlocking potential in people for the benefit of the 21st-century business and society. At the core, Makers combines tech education with employment possibilities that transform lives. The academy accepts only exceptional applicants into the course. While they are highly selective, they focus on a student's passion for becoming a developer by gauging their coding experience. Makers Academy offers apprenticeships through their bootcamps.
The course has been designed by a team of inspirational software engineers with strong backgrounds in educational psychology, enabling students to master any technology in today's marketplace. As big believers in self-directed learning, students will finish the course as a confident and independent software engineer ready to hit the ground running. There's a focus on life-long learning skills, while the course includes technical tests, working on open-source code or even working with the Makers engineering team on live, real-world, production code.
With one of the UK’s largest careers team dedicated to finding students a job after the end of the course, Makers Academy will introduce students to over 250 of London’s top technology companies looking to hire, including but not limited to: Deliveroo, British Gas, Starling Bank, Financial Times, Compare The Market.com, and Tesco.

Makers experience was completely transformational! I came in as a customer service person and I'm leaving as a full stack dev. The course is super tough and not for the faint hearted! Very intense but good!
Very intense, good community, good alumni, would recommend! Syllabus could be better!
The syllabus and course content could have been more comprehensive, and easier to understand.
If that was improved, it would have been the perfect experience.

Eye-opening, intense, fulfilling experience.
Pro's:
- Met some amazing people who are great to be with, and having the web of contacts is almost as valuable as the course itself.
- I really liked the coaches, I learnt a lot in a short space of time.
- Learnt to code!!!
- A great way to kick off a career.
Cons:
- I felt a bit out of my depth at times. I felt when I embarked on the course I wasn't quite ready, and it was so easy to get on the course I didn't think hard enough about how intense it might be. It ...Pro's:

Great bootcamp if you make the effort
Makers is intensive and will take over your life for the 12 weeks you're there. You have the support of a peer group, both online and in person social events and EQ sessions to balance out the wealth of technical learning.
The coaches are supportive and will make time to help you if you're stuck, although you shouldn't expect to be fed solutions as there is a heavy focus on learning how to work things out and where to look for the answers. If you aren't willing to throw yourself ...Makers is intensive and will take over your life for the 12 weeks you're there. I felt really drained and burnt out at the end of the course, and honestly couldn't have imagined anything worse than having to start job applications, but the careers team had so much energy it raised me up. In a month of finishing I've got my first tech job.

Excellent intensive learning experience with great resources that teaches you important fundamentals to get a job as a junior dev. Pros: The course materials are excellent which helped me learn all the fundamentals you need to work as a junior dev, and they can be revisited as many times as you want even after graduating. Many hiring partners from big companies (e.g. Deloitte, Capgemini etc) as well as smaller ...Excellent intensive learning experience with great resources that teaches you important fundamentals to get a job as a junior dev. Pros: The course materials are excellent which helped me learn all the fundamentals you need to work as a junior dev, and they can be revisited as many times as you want even after graduating. Many hiring partners from big companies (e.g. Deloitte, Capgemini etc) as well as smaller start ups gives you direct access to them. Lots of ongoing support even after you finish the course after 16 weeks with ongoing lessons to help graduates work on their weaknesses as well as the job hunting process. Great culture and values and care about students. Great Experience
The Makers Academy bootcamp was great for learning the fundamentals skills of software development that are highly relevant when applying for your first role.
It's tough to learn at such a quick pace and it's a big time commitment (6 days per week for most of the course) but it's definitely worth it. Life Changing
I didn't have a technical background. Never coded anything. Makers teaches you to learn how to learn and in the process moulds you into an employable software developer. Taking you through Ruby and Javascript, you are exposed to best industry practices of test-driven development (TDD), agile /XP practices, completing all sorts of current practice projects, to come out exposed to current practices of the industry. Not only is the support in the course readily available and ALWAYS offered,...I didn't have a technical background. Never coded anything. Not only is the support in the course readily available and ALWAYS offered, they provide great support not only on the technical side, but also for your soft skills to really prepare you holistically. You are exposed to all the members of your cohort through pair programming often building strong friendships, and really lovely people that I hope to see blossom in their future careers. Makers always asks "Are you learning?" and "Are you having fun?" - and these questions always helped me refocus on my objectives. With so many choices out there, I'm so glad to have gone through Makers as I'm not sure I would have received the balance in support and learning anywhere else. The support continues with the jobhunt, making this a truly life changing experience as I start my NEW career in software development!

This sixteen week course will provide you with all the skills you need to land your first developer job. The first four weeks make up a pre-course which teaches you the basics of coding. If you have free time during this period I'd strongly recommend to keep learning to build up as much of a foundation as you can as once the main course begins it is intense. Studying with a partner will give you the confidence to communicate what you've learned, but you'll also learn not to be hesitant to ask questions when you don't understand something. These are extremely valuable abilities to have while applying for jobs.
There is a lot of technical and emotional help available if you ask for it, so don't expect too many lectures and be prepared to do some extra self-study. My best learning experience to date
I've been to university before that, and I have to say that I have learned more in 4 months at Makers than my 2 years at university, hands down. The programme is condensed, not for the faint of heart and anyone planning to do that part time (we were working 70h/week) but it is so worth it and absolutely guaranteed to get you a good first position in tech !
I was able to learn so much so fast thanks to the coaches who are absolute angels and very understanding of your everyday struggl...I've been to university before that, and I have to say that I have learned more in 4 months at Makers than my 2 years at university, hands down. All in all, I highly recommend Makers as a bootcamp choice if you're in London, it's an amazing opportunity for change and growth :)
