General Assembly
General Assembly is a technical education provider that teaches students the skills, career advice and networking opportunities needed to make a career change into a tech role, in as little as three months. General Assembly offers part-time and full-time bootcamps and short courses in web and mobile development, product management, data science, and more. The bootcamp experience is led by instructors who are expert practitioners in their field. Students should expect to build a solid portfolio of real-life projects. Since 2011, General Assembly has graduated more than 40,000 students worldwide from the full time and part time bootcamp.
To enroll at General Assembly, applicants should submit an online application to connect with a GA Admissions team member who will work with them to decide if a tech bootcamps is the right fit. The GA Admissions staff are also prepared to speak with applicants about the best tech role for them, learning styles at GA, expected outcomes after the bootcamp, options to finance the bootcamp, career services offered by GA, and more.
To help students land their first job in a tech role, General Assembly students are supported by career coaches from day one. The program is enhanced by a career services team that is constantly in talks with employers about their tech hiring needs.

A great program, but be prepared to throw your whole self into this bootcamp

For GA's UXDI Immersive, you're thrown headfirst into a crazy 40+ hour/week commitment with barely any time to take a breath of fresh air. Now, this seems daunting (and it absolutely is), but if you go into this program with the mindset that you want to succeed, that you want to get as much out of this program as you possibly can before those brief 12 weeks are up, then you'll be fine -- I can guarantee it. For GA's UXDI Immersive, you're thrown headfirst into a crazy 40+ hour/week commitment with barely any time to take a breath of fresh air. Now, this seems daunting (and it absolutely is), but if you go into this program with the mindset that you want to succeed, that you want to get as much out of this program as you possibly can before those brief 12 weeks are up, then you'll be fine -- I can guarantee it. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is that you will only get as much out of this boot camp as you're willing to put in. You will not be hand-held the entire time, you will be expected to execute design projects in incredibly short amounts of time (but they don't have to be perfect (!!) just backed with good research). While it is okay that you aren't able to get to some of the additional reading material, know that your willingness to absorb and apply everything you learn will make you a better UX'er. You must (as cheesy as it sounds) become one with the course material and the applications.
Something that could be improved --
There are a handful of things that I think this course, or at least my experience with the course, could have been improved upon. One prominent one is pacing. The first 4 weeks of the course are a whirlwind of information. It's like getting thrown into the ocean with just a panel of wood to keep you afloat. Towards the latter half of the course, while I appreciated the vast amounts of "Workshop Time", I would have liked it even more to have other lessons sprinkled throughout the rest of the course to further enhance my UX/UI skills, or just to learn more about how UX fits into different industries.

Worth it
I had many doubts before investing half of my savings in GA data analytics BootCamp a year ago, but now everything around me proves that was the right decision to make. Before that I already had diverse educational backgrounds across TAFE and university programs - none of them yields more outcomes than this 3-month journey. At the time of joining GA in May, 2022, I was unemployed in the aftermath of COVID as a migrant living alone in Australia. Now is June 2023, I'm working as an IT prof...I had many doubts before investing half of my savings in GA data analytics BootCamp a year ago, but now everything around me proves that was the right decision to make. Before that I already had diverse educational backgrounds across TAFE and university programs - none of them yields more outcomes than this 3-month journey. At the time of joining GA in May, 2022, I was unemployed in the aftermath of COVID as a migrant living alone in Australia. Now is June 2023, I'm working as an IT professional with a decent salary in a life-balanced environment. I know friends who recently graduated with Masters of IT at UNSW, UON, or a Cert IV from TAFE, they are actually not doing as good as I am. As once told at an info session at TAFE, this is an unregulated industry - so as long as you find the right field for your (e.g. Data analytics), go for it, gain the skill, then it doesn't matter where you are from, practice your English, then you WILL find a good job. P.S. I know depends on the occasion some may have complained about the instructors, I am a TAE-certified trainer, trust me, I have seen a lot worse at uni and TAFE, it's not an easy subject to teach, and even more so for 8 hours x 3 months non-stop.
